A few years ago, a client was quoted over $2K for treatment by a leading hair regrowth chain in Perth. I decided to set her up at home with a Microneedling pen and topical products to use in conjunction with at-home Microneedling to promote hair growth. At the time, she was also experiencing hormone issues and noticing more hair loss than usual.

With my guidance, in just three months of consistent at-home Microneedling, her hairdresser was surprised to see new hair growth at her crown.

The Images on the left , below, are from a dedicated client who has been with us for 7 years. She started regular Microneedling therapy about two months ago (this blog is written on 06/09/2024), with my guidance, doing consistent Microneedling therapy after our one-on-one training.

She is committed to skin rejuvenation practices and performs regular Microneedling therapy at home on her hands, arms, and more recently, her scalp and face. This client is using a basic Hyaluronic Acid serum and Microneedling pen in conjunction with a Red LED Growth plate, that is more commonly seen used to grown indoor plants.

After approximately 3 months since she started to do microneedling therapy at home, these are the amazing results by 21/09/2024:

Hair loss is challenging for anyone to experience. While this is often associated with men, it can also affect women and will invariably have added emotional impact on them, which can affect their self-esteem and self-worth. Feelings of vulnerability, depression and anxiety can arise, impacting mental health and their sense of perceived beauty.

While hair loss in mature-age women can be complex, this blog is intended to raise awareness around alternative solutions that can prove to be simple more and cost-effective.

This client is a great example of how Microneedling therapy can regenerate hair growth. Check back to see her progress and how the combination of Microneedling and Red LED light therapy is working for her and building her confidence.

How Common is Hair Loss among Women in Australia?

According to the Australian Journal of General Practice (AJGP) and the Australasian Journal of Dermatology, hair loss among women is more common than many might think. In Australia, About 49% of women experience hair loss, with Female Pattern Hair Loss (FPHL) being the most common cause, affecting over 800,000 women in Australia. FPHL is characterized by the thinning of hair due to hair follicle miniaturization, influenced by genetic and androgenic factors like testosterone. Hair loss may signal underlying conditions such as hyperandrogenism, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease, making screening for metabolic risk factors essential.

Hair loss in women can be triggered by various factors, including:

  • Hormonal Changes: Pregnancy, menopause, and thyroid imbalances can lead to significant hair loss.
  • Medical Conditions: Conditions like alopecia areata, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and autoimmune diseases can contribute to hair thinning and loss.
  • Nutritional Deficiencies: Lack of essential nutrients such as iron, vitamin D, and protein can weaken hair and lead to shedding.
  • Stress: Physical or emotional stress can cause hair to enter the shedding phase prematurely, leading to noticeable loss.
  • Genetics: Family history plays a role, with hereditary hair loss patterns often becoming apparent as women age.

How Do We Treat Hair Loss? NOT with expensive serums, conditioners, supplements and potions!

Expensive elixirs, therapies, and supplements continue to saturate the marketplace, promising miracle solutions. Products such as NutrafolViviscal, and Rogaine boast impressive outcomes in their marketing,  but it’s important to approach these with caution.
While some women may see improvements, others may not experience the same benefits. It’s crucial to have realistic expectations and consult with a healthcare professional before investing in these treatments.

As the causes of hair loss among women are very diverse, treatment has to be highly specialized. Treatment ranges from medical treatments like Minoxidil and hormone therapy to lifestyle changes such as improving diet and reducing stress.
Additionally, therapies like PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) are also showing promise in stimulating hair growth. But these treatments DO NOT guarantee you the recovery of your scalp.

Perhaps its time to try some less invasive, more affordable and possibly effective options that might just make a significant difference.

It should be noted that regular comprehensive treatments, at appropriate intervals, as part of a comprehensive skincare regime, will result in ongoing improvement in both cellular turnover and thickening of the Dermis. Treatments that barely make the skin pink for a few minutes will not result in the positive effects mentioned.

Our SilverGold and Platinum packages include all clinic-grad skincare products for the face and body and at-home treatment devices, such as Microneedling pens, as well as all consumables needed to do all at-home Microneedling for hair growth on the scalp.
