But what makes rice so special? Beyond being a budget-friendly, easily accessible resource, rice is packed with essential nutrients like amino acids, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals that support overall health.
In this blog, we’ll explore the many uses of rice, and dive into its amazing benefits for hair, skin, and even gut health. With its low cost and incredible healing powers, rice is truly a magical ingredient for your beauty and wellness routine. Let’s unlock the secrets of this ancient powerhouse together!
Fermented Rice Water Hair Rinse:
Inspired by the centuries-old tradition of the Yao women in China. The Yao women, known for their stunningly long and shiny hair that often grows over six feet, attribute their hair health to fermented rice water. This nutrient-rich liquid, made by soaking and fermenting rice for a few days, is packed with amino acids, vitamins, and minerals that nourish the hair and scalp.
We experimented with fermented rice water as a hair rinse, and the results were really good!
It also strengthens the hair shaft and prevents breakage. However, balance is key! Rice water is protein-rich, and overuse can lead to dryness or breakage, so it’s best to use it no more than once or twice a month.
How to Make and Use Fermented Rice Water: Here’s a simple recipe for fermented rice water hair rinse.
Ingredients:
-
1 cup of white rice
-
4 cups of filtered water
-
A peel from pomelo, orange, or grapefruit
-
Essential oil (optional)
Instructions:
- Wash the rice, then rinse it, rubbing the grains between your hands as you go.
- Discard the rice and keep the water. It’s liquid gold!
- Add the peel and a few drops of your favourite essential oil to the water.
- Boil the water for about 10-15 minutes, then let it cool.
- Store it in a dark place for 2-5 days to ferment.
